SPOTLIGHT - ERIC BANA

SPOTLIGHT - ERIC BANA

When the idea of creating a blog was first introduced I began brainstorming some ideas as to how I would separate myself from the other hundreds of gossip sights. One thing that came to mind was spotlighting one Actor/Actress and giving an overview of their personal and professional life. I brought the idea up to my dear friend Leah and she suggested I start by spotlighting her #1. Now Eric Bana is not even in the vicinity of my hot guy radar, but she would argue the same of mine (Robert Pattinson in case you didn't know!!!)

So spotlight #1 - is going to Eric Bana

He was born Eric Banadinovich on the 9th of August 1968 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He is supposedly 6' 2½" which is probably exaggerated, but non the less a rarity in a world full of 5'8" men (this observation just increased his hotness)

His father, was a manager for Caterpiller Inc. His mother was a hairdresser.

He was fond of Mel Gibson in Mad Max (1979) and decided to become an actor. He moved to Sydney and worked odd jobs to support himself.

In 1991, he began a career as a stand-up comedian, while working as a barman at Melbourne's Castle Hotel.

In 1993, Bana made his television debut on Steve Vizard's "Tonight Live with Steve Vizard" (1990) talk show, then joined the "Full Frontal" (1993) TV-series. He gained popularity for making impressions of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Cruse and "Colombo".

In 1996, he started his own show titled "Eric" (1997), then launched a comedy series titled "The Eric Bana Show Live" (1997). The show was canceled for the lack of substantial audience, however, in 1997, Bana received the Logie Award for "Most Popular Comedian" for his work on "The Eric Bana Show Live" (1997).

He made his film debut in The Castle (1997), in a supporting comic role. That same year, he was cast to portray "Read", the notorious Australian underworld figure. For the role, Bana gained 30 pounds, by eating junk food; he also spent a few days with "Read" in prison, in order to perfect his mimicry. Bana completely transformed himself into a bald, fat, disturbed criminal. He would arrive on the film set at four in the morning, spending several hours in makeup, being tattooed exactly like "Read". Chopper (2000) became an international success and won three Australian Film Institute Awards. Bana won the Best Actor at the 2000 Stockholm Film Festival and also the AFI 2000 Best Actor Award. Then he co-starred in Black Hawk Down (2001), then starred in Hulk (2003).

In 2002, He got a lead role in Troy (2004), after being recommended by Brad Pitt, who admired Bana for his work in Chopper (2000). This is by far my favorite role of his to date.

In 2005, Bana co-starred with Daniel Craig and Geoffrey Rush in the political drama Munich (2005) directed by Steven Spielberg.

Love Life
In 1995, he began dating Rebecca Gleeson, a publicist and daughter of Australian High Court Chief Justice Murray Gleeson. The following year, he was named "Bachelor of the Year" by Cleo Magazine, and won a trip for two to the United States. He invited Gleeson, and proposed to her during that romantic trip. In 1997, the two were married; their son, Klaus, was born in 1999, their daughter, Sophia, was born in 2002. He currently resides in Melbourne with his wife and their two children.

Movie Rundown

#1 The Time Traveler's Wife (2009)
#2 Funny People (2009)
#3 Star Trek (2009)
#4 Mary and Max (2009) (voice) .... Damien
#5 The Other Boleyn Girl (2008)
#6 Romulus, My Father (2007)
#7 Lucky You (2007)
#8 Munich (2005)
#9 Troy (2004)
#10 Hulk (2003)
#11 Finding Nemo (2003) (voice) .... Anchor
#12 The Nugget (2002)
#13 Black Hawk Down (2001)
#14 Chopper (2000)

It looks like he has two movies in development, but nothing currently filming which means in will be a while before we will see him on the big screen. If you are interested in catching a Eric Bana film I would recommend Troy, Munich or Black Hawk Down. I was looking forward to digging up a little grease from Eric's past, but he seems to be one of the few incident free Actors in Hollywood. This is unfortunate for us gossip whores!!!!

TRAILER TIME

This movie is getting loads of Oscar Buzz!!! Have you seen the trailer, if not - you must. It's directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) and stars Stanley Tucci, Susan Sarandon, Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz and Saoirse Ronan (young girl from Atonement). I heard the book is incredible so hopefully the movie will stand up to the hype!!! This is definetly not a festive, "pick me up" kinda movie!! Given its' content I have a feeling it's going to be intensely serious and depressingly sad - the traditional prerequisite for any Oscar Nominated Film!!!! I suggest bringing a large box of Kleenex!!!!

When I was 17 I worked at a movie theater, and I remember thinking the first Christmas I was forced to work - Who in the hell would come to a movie on Christmas???? When 8 of the 9 theaters sold out (because of the Titanic movie) - I realized the answer was everyone!!!! As I mumbled unrepeatable endearments at my customers, I recall swearing my undying support for the poor buggers forced to work on what is supposed to be the happiest day of the year!!

My moral standards seem to be slipping because when I saw this trailer - my first thought was - how could I strategically suggest the family abandon the board games and go out to a movie on Christmas!!!! I can already picture my mother’s scowling face at the very idea of abandoning our Christmas traditions to partake in an unsociable, mindless activity. She will be eye murdering me the remainder of the evening – if I make it that long!!!

This movie is a sure bet – Meryl Streep does not put her name on anything unless it’s well written and well cast. She has already received a Golden Globe nomination for this movie as well as for “Julie and Julia”, I wonder which role she will win for?????. This is one of the those great movies you go see with your girlfriends and mom and laugh as though you are the only one in the theater – can’t wait. Movie opens everywhere Christmas Day. If you have the chance to see it this weekend – would love to hear your reviews.

If I was going to be stuck on a desert island and I could only bring 5 movies with me (my desert island has power, a t.v. and dvd player!!) - Pride and Prejudice (the Keira Knightly version) would be on that list - now your asking yourself what is the connection????

Carey Mulligan (the lead actress in "An Education") was the younger sister of Izzy (Keira Knightly's character)in "Pride and Prejudice" so therefore she is granted instantaneous likability through association!!!! She has just been named one of 2009 up and coming artist's, she is dating Shia Lebeuf (Transformers)and she is ridiculously beautiful - definitely one to watch.

Once again it is a film packed full of incredible actors - Emma Thompson, Alfred Molina, Peter Sarsgaard and Dominic Cooper. Carey has been receiving endless praise for her role and it sounds like Oscar might be calling. This is a must see - hoping it ends up on my top 5 - I need a change up!!!!!

Director James Cameron (the Titanic) has created a 3D master piece. This movie cost 300 million dollars to create, which to give some perspective - Lord of the Rings, fellowship of the ring cost 270 million to create. Hollywood has been hit hard by the economy so it was both surprising and risky to create this movie - lucky for them it seems to have paid off. Avatar brought in 232 million worldwide it's first weekend. Sci-fi movies have such an incredible following that I would not be surprised if it breaks major records before it leaves the theaters.

Welcome to my first day of blogging

So here it is, day one of what I am calling a useful outlet for my talented knowledge of the entertainment world! I know many of you would have another name for such levels of passion and commitment, you may possibly translate this into my obsession with anything rich, famous and skinny, but I promise you it goes way deeper than that. We cannot limit or exclude the importance of accessories, fashion and beautiful people!!!!! The entertainment world is my refuge, my escape goat...and so, with the suggestion from my dear friend Kim, I have decided to share my endless, useless knowledge and put my thoughts out into the abyss. I will have to ask you right from the starting block to be patient with me, as I am very technologically challenged (one of many things I blame the kids for as they sucked out that part of my brain first). So my point being that it will probably take a while before anything looks very professional, or has any photo attachments, because I guess you have to purchase the damn things in order to post them – who knew!!!! I guess there is a copyright law or some bullshit like that (can we swear on this thing???) God I hope so. So today is short and sweet, but don’t worry tomorrow is another day and another layer will be revealed into the depth of my intelligence! Until then, "Always drink upstream from the herd”. Thanks for reading, Adrienne Claudette

NUMBER ONE
So in honor of day one I am going to make my first official entry about my #1. The problem with my number one is that he appears to be everyone's number one, which makes me generic and if you knew me at all the thing I hate most in the world is blending. In the past I have always gone for the unknown, quirky, secretly hot, shy guy that has vast amounts of undiscovered talent, but doesn’t know it - this then limits my competition and allows my wild imagination to run rapid through the hot guy streets of my manifestations!!!! For example I loved Ryan Gosling when he was on breaker high, why - because he was awkwardly skinny, weird and unappealing, yet I knew there was hot man power lurking deep within. Since the Notebook everybody and there dog knows about his no longer secret sexy, this is a quiver killer for me - like I said I hate the competition. My fantasy goes from just the two of us in a dark corner eye monkeying the other to us being at a busy restaurant with some skinny bitch serving him beer and eye monkeying her because he knows how hot he is and so does everyone else – do you see my point – it changes everything. Anyway the purpose being that despite his world wide appeal he is my #1 – Many of his overzealous fans refer to him as Edward Cullen (because they are disillusioned into thinking the person is a fictional character). I just call him Robby or in a more formal setting Robert, others like to call him Rpatz (I do not like this for the record). So there it is my numero uno, honestly I don't think anyone has affected me like this since Joey from New Kids on the Block and I think I was 10. It's soooo sad, but I just can’t help myself!!! I tried countless times to get over him so I could move on to my next undiscovered loser, but he's everywhere haunting me, encouraging the fantasies. I thought I had finally kicked him when the Vanity Fair magazine came out - this just brought on a whole new level of adoration. He is undeniable beautiful, but my other reasons for adoring him elude me. I mean if you have ever witnessed a recent interview with him it so awkward and painful I wanted to rescue him. Here he is on David Letterman

So after that interview you think it would have settled any lusting, but no I just felt bad for him and wanted the rest of the world to witness his secret greatness. I have given this a lot of thought (way more that I should) and I think his appeal must have something to do with his quite intelligence, or quirky sense of humor or possibly his lack of confidence ( I always find that a turn on – weird right!!!). Anyway whatever it is it’s workin for him, my favorite Robby moment was in a radio interview he did with a station in Paris – you have to check it out below - I think it’s about half way through when the interviewer asks him how he can love Bella, but not make love to her in the film?? It’s a great interview and a perfect example of why we would be perfect together!!!!

MOVIE NIGHT

Here is it - my Robby's big moment to shine, to escape the Twilight Shadows and show the world his true acting ability...... God I hope he can do it!!!! Their may be a possibility that I have been blinded by our undeniable connection, but I truly feel that their is a brilliant, tormented actor waiting to escape and release his destined talent on all of us!!! This may seem a little over the top, but at least he can't say that I didn't support him from the beginning. I won't be a band wagoner like the rest of you wannabees!!!!!!

The truth is the trailer is a little chaotic, but I see potential - What do you think??? Either way, I will be there, supporting him as I always have and showing him the meaning of true commitment!!!!

In true Tim Burton style this looks like one Fuckin Crazy Alice in Wonderland and I can't wait to see it!!!!!!!! Why might you ask - I will tell you why - Johnny!! It's all about Johnny!!!!!! He is a one man Island, a irreplaceable genius - their will never be a duplicate..... So I will see this crazy and probably dark and depressing movie and anything else he ever creates because we are witnessing the creation of a Picasso. A perfect, one of a kind piece of Artwork that many people will try and duplicate, but will undoubtedly fail. So go see it and witness the genius!!!

I can't wait for this Movie to Come out Christmas Day. We are guaranteed a great movie with the kind of acting Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law and our Canadian girl Rachel McAdams are capable of delivering. I am going Boxing Day see you there.

WTF

Alright I am a mother like many of you out there and we all know that when it comes to the kidlets we want to one up any other kid or mom in a 100mile radius. This is not new information. I will admit that I have possibly gone to extremes on occasion to ensure that my child is kickin all the other kids' on the playgrounds fashion butts. However, this is within limits of appropriateness and conventionalism. Yes, there is the odd time that a child wins the closet war and ends up going out in their snowsuit in the middle of summer (we must pick our battles), but what Mr and Mrs Pleasantville have allowed their child to prance around in is for no other purpose than media whoring. This is mother trucking ridiculous, I don't care what Suri wants to wear out of the house. She looks like one of those kids off of that "Toddlers and Tiaras" show where the parents dress their kids up like life size porcelain dolls and prance them around a stage to that catwalk song. The only difference here is that Suri is allowed to eat. Only Tom and Katie would have a dress like this for their child and prance her around town claiming that Suri calls the shots. We all know who calls the shots in that relationship and one can only presume he's living out his secret fantasies through her. And to put the icing on the cake the fashion travesty does not end there, let's just say for Suri's sake the apple does not fall far from the tree - nice work Katie. Oh how the mighty fall.

So when the advertisements came out for the "Vampire Diaries" I swore to myself that their was no way in hell I would subject myself to more Vampire shit as it has become seriously over saturated!!!! The networks are trying to drain every penny out of this Twilight Phenomenon - which of course makes good business sense, but makes for very unoriginal programming.

Their piss poor attempt at trying to replace my Robby with this Paul Wesley aka Stefan character was offensive and distasteful. I promised myself I would not be leered into such elementary entertainment.

So one Thursday night I found myself channel surfing......

This is the problem with this Vampire shit - it's addicting - don't start. I mean the truth is it's cheesy as hell and could really use a new angle, but it's full of beautiful people, unnecessary shirtless scenes, sex and mediocre acting - so how can you go wrong!!!!

I will admit that there is one storyline in particular that forces me to keep coming back for more!!! I love Katerina Graham and her whole witch story line - it gives the show some originality.

As far as eye candy is concerned there are endless smelly piles of it, and although it does not interest me, my girlfriends are constantly drooling from the mouth about this Ian Somerholder aka Damon - I think he is way too pretty, but you know me.... I like them unshaven and dirty!!!! If this show is going to continue to lure me into wasting an hour on Thursday nights - we are going to need a new dirty Vampire in town!!!!

This is Katerina and Ian at the InStyles Golden Globe Party on Dec 8th.
Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights on the CW - they are airing re-runs at the moment, but new shows start Jan 14, 2010.
